Melanotan II is a cyclic synthetic analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), engineered for greater metabolic stability than the native hormone. Unlike PT-141 — the selective MC4-receptor fragment derived from it — Melanotan II acts broadly across the melanocortin receptor family (MC1 and MC4 in particular), which is the basis for its wider research scope spanning pigmentation pathways and general melanocortin-system studies.
