NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme present in every living cell, acting as an electron carrier in the mitochondrial pathways that generate cellular energy (ATP) and as a required substrate for sirtuins and PARP enzymes, which govern DNA repair. Cellular NAD+ levels are well documented to decline with age, which is the central reason it's studied in longevity and cellular-energy research — often alongside MOTS-c, which acts on a related but distinct mitochondrial signalling pathway (AMPK activation rather than coenzyme supply).
