TB-500 is a synthetic fragment of thymosin beta-4, a naturally occurring protein present in almost all human and animal cells that plays a role in cell migration and structural repair. Research interest centres on its proposed ability to upregulate actin, a protein central to cell movement, which is the basis for its study in tendon, ligament and muscle-tissue repair models. It is frequently studied alongside BPC-157, with the two compounds' proposed mechanisms — angiogenesis and cell-migration signalling — viewed as complementary rather than overlapping.
