Selank is a frequently-studied nootropic research peptide. This page covers what it is, the research areas it appears in, and how to source it with documentation from Australian stock.

What is Selank?

Selank is a synthetic analogue of the natural immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin, studied in brain and neuropeptide research.

Tuftsin is a four-amino-acid peptide — Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg — that occurs naturally as a fragment of an antibody molecule, and its established role is in immune regulation. Selank is that sequence with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail attached, the same stability motif used in Semax. Without it, a four-amino-acid peptide would be broken down far too quickly to study.

What makes the compound interesting is the crossover. Its parent molecule belongs to the immune system, yet the compound is studied predominantly in neuroscience — anxiety, stress response, cognition. That sits on one of the more active frontiers in current research: the relationship between immune signalling and brain function, two systems long treated as separate and increasingly understood as connected. Selank appears in the literature partly because it's a compound that straddles the boundary.

Selank and Semax

The two are almost always discussed together, and for good reason — both came out of the same Russian research programme, both are short synthetic peptides based on natural sequences, and both use the identical Pro-Gly-Pro stability tail.

The difference is where they start. Selank derives from tuftsin, an immune peptide, and is studied mainly around anxiety and stress response. Semax derives from ACTH, and is studied mainly around memory, focus and neuroprotection. Same design method, different parent molecule, different research areas — which is why they're complementary rather than interchangeable. Our Semax vs Selank guide works through it properly.

Research areas

In the scientific literature, Selank is studied in relation to:

  • Anxiety and stress-response research
  • Focus and cognition research
  • Immune-modulation research
  • Neuroimmune-interaction research
  • Neuropeptide and regulatory-peptide research

These describe fields of scientific study — they are not claims about effects in humans. Nothing here should be read as a statement about what the compound does in a person; NextGen Peptides supplies it strictly for laboratory and in-vitro research use.

As with Semax, a substantial portion of the published work is Russian-language, reflecting where the compound was developed. Anyone surveying the literature on English-language databases alone will get a partial view.

Storage & handling

Supplied as a lyophilised (freeze-dried) powder. Store at −20°C; reconstitute with bacteriostatic water and refrigerate. See our full guide to storing and reconstituting research peptides, and what to mix it with in our bacteriostatic water guide.

Standard method: run diluent slowly down the inside wall of the vial and swirl gently rather than shaking, refrigerate at 2–8°C once mixed, keep vials boxed and out of light, and never refreeze a reconstituted solution. Lyophilised powder at −20°C keeps long-term; a reconstituted vial is generally considered good for around four weeks. Concentration is set by the diluent volume you add — our reconstitution calculator works it out.

Common questions about Selank

What is Selank?
A synthetic analogue of the naturally occurring peptide tuftsin, studied in brain and neuropeptide research. Supplied for laboratory research use only.

What research areas is Selank studied in?
Anxiety and stress-response research, focus and cognition research, and immune-modulation research. These are fields of study, not effects in humans.

Is Selank tested and does it come with a CoA?
Yes. Every batch is independently tested for purity (RP-HPLC) and identity (LC-MS), with the Certificate of Analysis published.

Is Selank held in Australian stock?
Yes. We hold Selank in Australian stock and dispatch same or next business day for orders placed before the daily cut-off.

What is tuftsin?
A naturally occurring four-amino-acid peptide (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) that exists as a fragment of an antibody molecule, with an established role in immune regulation. Selank is that sequence plus a stability tail.

What is the Pro-Gly-Pro tail for?
Stability. A four-amino-acid peptide would be broken down too quickly to study; the tripeptide extension slows enzymatic degradation. The same motif is used in Semax.

Why is an immune peptide studied in neuroscience?
Because the relationship between immune signalling and brain function is an active research area, and Selank sits on that boundary — its parent molecule is immunological, while most of the work on it concerns anxiety, stress and cognition.

How is Selank different from Semax?
Different parent molecules and different research areas. Selank comes from tuftsin and is studied around anxiety and stress; Semax comes from ACTH and is studied around memory and neuroprotection. See our comparison.

How long does a reconstituted vial last?
Generally around four weeks refrigerated at 2–8°C when reconstituted with bacteriostatic water. Unreconstituted powder at −20°C keeps far longer. Never refreeze a reconstituted solution.
